• For more than two months, the Théâtre du Châtelet – very close to the Halles district – will perform this cult musical with a staging directed by Lonny Price , a great Broadway director!

• The story: against a backdrop of social and community rivalries, two gangs confront each other in N.Y. Manhattan: the Jets and the Sharks
• It’s the drama of Romeo and Juliet in New York in the 50s
• The story is set in the 1950s,when American youth are opposed by clans who seek to rule over a territory of the city.
• There are the Jets, led by Riff. They are white, working-class people born in America but of European descent through their immigrant parents…
• and there are the Sharks, whose leader is Bernardo. This is the clan of young people from Puerto Rico, who were also born on American soil and in the same way from parents who immigrated.
• But everything gets complicated… when Maria, Bernardo’s sister, meets and falls in love with Tony, a former Jets boss…

Prejudices, street fights… tolerance, love, and passion… This “West Side Story”, a little gem straight out of Broadway, is a timeless story that you absolutely must see or rewatch!
