“Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise”, a new exhibition on the artist’s latest paintings

  • The exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay is an unprecedented dive into the work of Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890)
  • We discover the paintings that the artist produced in Auvers-sur-Oise, during the last 2 months of his life
  • A crucial period, it was a moment of extraordinary frenetic creation where he painted 74 paintings in 70 days !
  • Shortly before settling in this village, Van Gogh, who lived in Arles, underwent a period of extreme fragility that required his internment in an asylum
  • Arriving in the Oise, he met Doctor Gachet, his doctor and friend who was a specialist in melancholy, and whose famous portrait can be admired. This friend never ceased to believe in the talent of the artist from whom he bought paintings
  • In a burst of creative force and before committing the irreparable, he produced tormented works such as “the wheat field invaded by crows” or large panoramic landscapes with dark skies
  • This specific period will reveal to the whole world a new direction in the treatment of paint
  • During the visit, the presentation of the works is accompanied by sound readings from Vincent’s correspondence with his brother Théo
  • This exhibition also offers an immersive 3D experience to better discover the creative environment and enter the painter’s palette. You will even meet an avatar of the artist! (Experience from 10 years)
