“The Paris of Modernity (1905-1925)”
The exhibition at the Petit Palais is simply wonderful. It presents Paris, from the Belle Epoque to the Roaring Twenties, when the capital was the centre of the world.
- Between the Belle Epoque and the Roaring Twenties, Paris was the world city, the capital of innovation and the centre of a formidable cultural influence
- In an extraordinarily small geographical area (from the Champs-Elysées to Montmartre and Montparnasse), they are all there. Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp, Marie Laurencin, Fernand Léger, Tamara de Lempicka, Modigliani, Picasso, the Douanier Rousseau, Henri Matisse, Kees Van Dongen, but also Paul Poiret and Jeanne Lanvin or Josephine Baker, Cocteau…
- “The Paris of Modernity” presents more than 400 works and mixes painting, sculpture, fashion art (Lanvin and Poiret), jewelry (Cartier), a plane, a bicycle, a car, photos and videos of the time

It shows successively, Montmartre and Montparnasse which are the places of creation, the Parisian salons that offer showcases to young artists, the boom of innovation with the automobile and aviation, the war and the commitment of artists, the return from the front and then the Roaring Twenties
