“The Miser”: Money Doesn’t Buy Happiness!

The story: Harpagon is rich, a widower, a father, but above all sick with avarice. With this obsession, he makes life hell for those around him. Thanks to his savings and his activity as a usurer, he built up a treasure that he hid at the bottom of the garden. The presence of this treasure ended up driving him crazy: what if someone found the cassette and stole it? His illness even led him to want to marry his daughter without a dowry and to seek a financially advantageous union for himself. Bad luck: his son Cléante has his sights set on the same young woman, Marianne. Fortunately, the tricks of some, the intrigues of others, will allow for an unexpected happy ending.

The Miser is staged here as a ferocious comedy or even a comic thriller
The play shows how the disease of greed has repercussions on an entire household
It also shows the patriarchal system of the time, with a mad but nevertheless all-powerful father

Excellente adaptation moderne de mise en scène, tout en respectant le texte de Molière. Des acteurs très “engagés”, des trouvailles d’interprétation. Aucune difficulté de réservation et d’accès à nos places. A recommander, notamment avec des enfants de 10, 12, et 14 ans, comme nous ce jour là.
