One of the jewels of the Palace of Versailles: the Petit Trianon, Grand Trianon, the Queen’s Hamlet, the farm…
In Versailles, there is the Palace of Versailles and its Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Canal, the groves and the Estate of Marie-Antoinette. The latter consists of the Petit and Grand Trianon, several charming buildings, a lake, small rivers, gardens, and a farm. Marie-Antoinette used this estate as a place to walk and to entertain. The place is beautiful and it is good to walk around. A very nice place for the family where children can frolic, see the farm animals and above all discover a place steeped in history.
The Petit and Grand Trianon
- The Petit Trianon was built during the reign of Louis V. It was given to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette who loved this place!
- It was later restored by Napoleon
- The Grand Trianon (1687), a refined building inspired by Italian architecture, is one of the jewels of the Palace of Versailles
The Queen’s Hamlet
It is composed of several thatched cottages including:
- The Queen’s House and the Billiards House (1783), two buildings that had several gaming rooms, a large dining room and an antechamber
- The dovecote that housed the poultry and pigeons (1783)
- Pretty gardens and vegetable gardens surround these small houses with thatched roofs and half-timbering
- Everything is pretty, charming and very neat
Marie-Antoinette’s farm (1784-1788)
- It was home to a herd of cows, bulls, goats and pigeons…
- The farm supplied milk and eggs to the queen
- Today, you can see horses, donkeys, goats, sheep and chickens
- This farm has a strong educational vocation. It is also a refuge because all the residents are rescuers
