VISIT THE CHÂTEAU DE FONTAINEBLEAU AND THE PARK

Fontainebleau is the only royal and imperial castle continuously inhabited for seven centuries. It is also the most furnished castle in France. It has 1500 pieces (not all of them are accessible to the public). The park and gardens extend over nearly 130 hectares

  • The entrance ticket allows a self-guided tour of the castle including the Napoleon I Museum and the State Apartments (allow about 2 hours of visit)
  • The Imperial Theatre, the Small Apartments, the Apartments of Madame de Maintenon and the Turkish Boudoir can be seen on guided tours only
  • For visits and activities, you must book online and choose a time slot

FOR CHILDREN

  • A video guide for 7-12 year olds and enriched with visuals and additional comments on the rooms and works, in an adult version
  • The gardens of the castle can be visited every day throughout the year. Depending on the season, it will be: a horse-drawn carriage ride, the little train, boating, or a visit to the Jeu de Paume room

VISIT THE CASTLE IN PERIOD COSTUME

  • The Estocade company offers to rent its costumes during your visit: costumes of the king’s musketeers, marquises, marquises…
  • During the school holidays in zone C
  • Every day (except Tuesday). From October to March: from 10 am to 5 pm (last rental at 4:15 pm). From 10 July to 24 August inclusive, from Wednesday to Sunday (they will not be present on Mondays and Tuesdays). At 10:30 am, 12 pm, 2:15 pm, 3:45 pm
  • Duration : 1 hour
  • Children from 6 years old accompanied by an adult
  • Price : €14 + entrance ticket
  • (an identity document is required as a deposit)

THEMATIC GUIDED TOURS

  • With the family: investigation at the Château From 7 years old: Walk through unusual places in the castle, usually closed to the public to help the curator settle a matter that dates back to the nineteenth century – (Duration 1h30 – excluding school holidays)
  • The discovery of the castle : a tour dedicated to meeting the sovereigns who succeeded one another in Fontainebleau, the discovery of the emblematic places of the castle (duration: 1h30) – Every day from 9:30 am to 5 pm
  • A visit to the Imperial Theatre : the Imperial Theatre was commissioned by Napoleon III and inaugurated in 1857. You will learn about the history of the construction of the theatre, the imperial box, the sets and the performances given for the court (duration: 45min) – Every day at 4:30 pm
  • A visit to the Small Apartments : Built during the reign of Louis XV, who had a series of small cabinets set up for his use on the ground floor of the Grand Apartments wing, the Small Apartments, as we see them today, are the result of the final developments decided under the two Empires (duration 1h15) – Every day at 2:30 pm
  • The Turkish boudoir: The Turkish boudoir is the intimate space of Queen Marie-Antoinette in Fontainebleau. It testifies to the taste of the Ancien Régime for the Orient. (Duration 45 min)
  • The Empress Museum: 800 art objects, mostly from Asia, which were offered as gifts (Duration 30 min)

SUMMER 2024 AT THE CHÂTEAU

  • Night tour: “A summer night at the court“”: Discover the gardens at nightfall and the emblematic rooms of the castle, but also in the secret spaces, in a unique atmosphere. Every Thursday and Saturday, from 11 July to 7 September inclusive.
  • Nature visit cycle : “Discovering the biodiversity of meadows and wooded environmentsAs part of the European Heritage Days : Seasonal programme based on locusts, bird calls, wild plants… Saturday, September 21 at 2:30 pm – duration: 2h30 – free
