Greater Paris on the move!

This new exhibition at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, is a dive into the heart of the history of the Paris metro. The fascinating exhibition tells the story of the urban changes resulting from mobility and unveils the “Grand Paris Express” project that will appear in 2030!

  • As soon as we arrive at the Trocadero , we are greeted outside, in front of the museum, by a giant wheel of 8 meters in diameter and 69 tons, from a tunnel boring machine of the Grand Paris Express
  • The 1st part of the exhibition is devoted to the history of the Paris metro since its construction at the end of the 19th century
  • In 1900, Parisians discovered the Parisian metro with Hector Guimard and its emblematic metro entrances
  • The exhibition tells the story of the construction site in the heart of Paris, its technological prowess, its effects on urban mobility
  • We discover the epic thanks to a very educational scenography with models, archive images, photos, period films and even the reconstruction of the old wooden oars that will bring back memories for the oldest among us
  • This is the story of a colossal construction site that revolutionized our vision of the capital and the way of living there.

The Paris of tomorrow…

  • The 2nd part of the route is devoted to the contemporary vision of Greater Paris. It is on the scale of an entire territory that the city is rethought in all its aspects…
  • The Grand Paris was launched in 2010. The route will form a double loop over 200 km and will bring together656 cultural places and the 2022 sports facilities !
  • 68 new stations will be built, as well as 4 new metro lines
  • 16 of the stations designed are presented as a backdrop so that the public can discover the character of each of these stations. Goodbye monotony, and long live diversity!
  • At the end of the tour, you can immerse yourself in the Grand Paris Express thanks to a projection on a giant screen

Activities for children

  • A play trail is planned for families with children over 8 years old.
  • Children’s workshop for 8 to 12 year olds “Dessus dessous”: children discover the history of the metro. In the workshop, they create their network, station and train within a model-cube, imagined by the illustrator and graphic designer Sylvain Lamy.
