More info on the activities available at the Atelier Rodin

  • The Atelier is four immersive and playful creative spaces interacting with the major works of Auguste Rodin!
  • Touch, assemble, explore as you wish, the space is designed to move from one activity to another, intuitively and without an imposed route. You have to move, turn around the sculptures to discover the space, the body and the third dimension.
  • The Atelier Rodin offers a journey into the sculptor’s universe to discover the practice of sculpture
  • A materials library is set up to explore the materials and ways of practicing sculpture, as well as the tools adapted to each technique:
  • Touching wood, marble, bronze … and watch very informative short films that show and explain the steps of creating a sculpture according to the material used by the artist.
  • In the manner of Rodin who elaborated figures with sculpted body fragments, children will be able to experiment with this technique with magnetic images to produce their own assemblage!
  • Kneading, palpating, creating, touching the material that comes to life under the fingers, modelling is the favourite activity of the youngest! Thanks to small moulds reproducing the head of the “Thinker” or one of the “Burghers of Calais” (which toddlers who have passed through the front garden will have recognised), children will be able to install their sculpture in the exhibition gallery specially designed in the Atelier Rodin.
  • And as the sculptor’s adventure is also that of the model, pedestals have been set up for the children to pose : sitting, standing, with their arms raised or pensive… like the thinker!

Quiet time on a slide

  • A slide allows access to a room dedicated to softer and calming activities. A library, a reading and audio corner to listen to podcasts on Auguste Rodin are comfortably set up to ensure a quiet time for the youngest, while remaining fun.
  • Creation is also in the spotlight for budding artists! The most beautiful works drawn in the coloring and imaginative drawing space will be exhibited in the window!

And also, to accompany the children on their visit to the Rodin Museum

  • An audio guide (€6) specially designed for children sheds a dynamic light on Auguste Rodin’s most emblematic sculptures presented in the garden and in the museum
  • The tablet-game course (€ 6) from 6 years old will take your toddler on the quest of Dante who has gone by all means to find Beatrice, his beloved! Go through the gates of hell and answer riddles during a journey through the museum and around the works.

The + of the Rodin Museum:

  • A superbly landscaped 3-hectare sculpture garden conducive to strolling. An ideal stopover with young children
  • A nursery area is available in the toilets in the ticket hall.
  • The café-restaurant “L’Augustine”, nestled in the heart of the garden, offers daily specials and light meals adapted to the seasons

The Rodin Museum

  • The place is magnificent ! It is a former private mansion, the Hôtel Biron, classified as a historical monument
  • The sculptures of Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel are full of strength
  • If Rodin’s works are often presented in museums, this is less frequently the case for Camille Claudel’s sculptures, which are extraordinary in their intensity and delicacy
  • It’s a museum on a human scale, extraordinary with children
  • Good to know: the Rodin Museum is free on the 1st Sunday of each month

The garden of the Rodin Museum

  • A sculpture garden with incredible charm, with major works such as The Thinker, the Gates of Hell and the Burghers of Calais
  • Whatever the season, the 3-hectare park with its groves and pond is superb and it is good to walk there
  • The lawns of the garden are open to the public. Ideal for picnics, resting, walking
  • You can eat in the cafeteria set up in the gardens (from 10 am to 5 pm)
