The programme of activities proposed on the theme “The music of the garden” in Matignon
During these three days dedicated to gardens, you will be able to discover:
- The song of the many birds present all year round in this garden, thanks to an exceptional partnership with the National Museum of Natural History.
- “Ecoacoustitians” will come to meet you to introduce you to the sounds of nature and explain their work
- During your walk, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the parties organized in the garden at the beginning of the twentieth century, in particular thanks to sound extracts accessible in an innovative way
- Aslittle gardeners, children will be able to try their hand at repotting cuttings while learning exciting things about the world of plants and their growth
- Surprise and discovery being the key word of these exceptional days in the Prime Minister’s garden, everything will be conducive to the discovery of the new actions of gardeners in favor of biodiversity and sustainable development, of which beekeepers and their hives are essential players.
A heritage that has survived the centuries
- The Matignon garden, shaped according to fashions and tastes since 1725 , is now labelled “EcoJardin” thanks to its maintenance that respects biodiversity. It is the largest private garden in Paris!
- Itis said to be “à la française” with the prospect of an alley planted with 111 lime trees pruned in the shape of a canopy! You will have to walk along this majestic promenade to find the statue of Abundance …
- But the Matignon garden is also called “English-style” for the somewhat bushy and varied plant planting of small groves reminiscent of the natural forest. Remarkable for several reasons, this garden is populated by a hundred species and varieties of plants. In fact, the most majestic of the trees is a purple beech tree that is about 220 years old
- DID YOU KNOW? For several decades, the republican tradition has been that each Prime Minister plants a tree when he arrives in Matignon. How many secrets and anecdotes could all these trees confide to us!
