Guided tour for teenagers on Modern Art at the Centre Pompidou

Pitch of the visit “Modern art explained to teenagers”

  • Modern art told to teenagers (and their parents or grandparents) during a visit to the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou (also known as Beaubourg)
  • Daring all innovations, freeing oneself from the dogmatic “good taste”, making one’s own trace, this is first and foremost what it means to be modern!
  • With escalators and pipes exposed in the foreground rather than hidden as always, the Centre Georges Pompidou , under its false factory air, is the emblematic showcase of Modern Art in Paris.
  • Our speaker will first introduce the teenagers to this strange building… She then approached the avant-garde movements with them: Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism, geometric abstraction, lyrical, Dada… then the big names: Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky, Braque, Mondrian, Pollock, Duchamp, …
  • Then, as good modern students, we will question everything: the use of color, stylistic distortion, the definition of a work of art : How do we recognize a good painter? What is a work of art?
  • Does it necessarily have to be beautiful, well done?, the necessary to make a painting: a canvas? brushes? Other less conventional tools and ways? Which ones and why?

For 1 hour and 30 minutes, your teenagers will go back in time to live as they did in the time of Picasso and Matisse, about 100 years ago.
