"Invitation au voyage" au jardin d’Agronomie Tropicale

  • The Tropical Agronomy Garden – quite unknown – is a mysterious garden that extends over a little more than 4 ha
  • In the nineteenth century, it housed a school of tropical agronomy, research pavilions, greenhouses, a colonial exhibition (1907), a war hospitalA Temple of Remembrance was built there as well as memorials in memory of the soldiers (of colonial troops) who died for France
  • Some of these buildings have suffered the ravages of time, others have been restored
  • For 3 years, the photographer Nathalie Tirot immersed herself in the atmosphere of the Tropical Agronomy garden and studied its nooks and crannies
  • She photographed pavilions, greenhouses, monuments and other research laboratories
  • She then integrated and superimposed old postcards and images in her own photos
  • Through this game of superimposition, by mixing past and present, the old images have merged into the photos of today in order to bring this unusual place back to life
  • In addition to the astonishing photographic work carried out by the photographer, it is a real work of memory that this exhibition shows us which brings this place steeped in history back to life
