Oskar Kokoschka, the 1st retrospective in Paris

Finally a retrospective of Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980) in Paris! The great Austrian painter, committed artist and major figure of European art at the beginning of the twentieth century.

  • The exhibition is dense
  • It allows us to encompass all of Kokoschka’s work, from his period best known to the general public (around the 1930s) to his late works (mid-1970s)
  • He is an unclassifiable painter to discover, but it is more of an exhibition for teenagers

The “Family Corner”: visits-workshops

Please note: It is advisable to book well in advance (often very quickly sold out)

  • Baby visit (0-8 months):
    • Dates: Wednesday 12 October, 11 January – 3pm
    • A gentle visit and a welcome adapted for babies and their parents to be able to contemplate the works of Oskar Kokoschka. As you walk through the exhibition, yoga and Wutao exercises invite you to relax and unwind. At the end of the visit, sitting on carpets, parents participate in the creation of a souvenir object that they can then take away.

  • From 1 to 3 years old :
    • Dates: Wednesday 12 October, 11 January – 10:30 am
    • The discovery of the characters painted by Kokoschka will encourage toddlers to express their emotions easily. In the studio, the clay modelling of an expressive face extends this encounter.

  • From 3 years old: “In the heart of the matter
    • Dates: Sunday 16 October, 27 November, 22 January – 2 pm, 3.30 pm
    • A journey to meet the many faces represented by the artist Oskar Kokoschka.
    • Young and old alike observe the dense material, the spontaneous and rhythmic style of the execution to then create a colourful and strongly emotional portrait.
  • From 3 years old: “Diving into the city”
    • Dates: Sunday 13 November, 11 December, 5 February – 2pm, 3.30pm
    • Oskar Kokoschka paints portraits of cities that he embraces with his plunging gaze: London, Prague, Florence, Lyon, Monte-Carlo…
    • Like the artist, young and old alike stage aerial views of the sea, the city or nature, using the techniques of collage, folding and assembly.

  • Guided tours for 4-6 year olds: In the shoes of an animal
    • Dates: Wednesday 5 October, 16 November, 7 December, 18 January, 1 February – 2.30 pm
    • Saturday 19 November, 10 December, 21 January, 4 February – 11 am
    • October 26, November 4, December 22 and 29 – 11 a.m.
    • After the visit, a mask will be made to allow the children to slip into the skin of an animal of their choice.
  • Guided tours for 4-6 year olds: In the table
    • Dates: Wednesday 19 October, 23 November, 14 December, 4 January, 8 February – 2.30 pm
    • Saturday 26 November, 7 January, 11 February – 11 am
    • November 3, December 23 and 30 – 11 a.m.
    • After the visit, the children draw a cityscape that they assemble in the form of a pop-up.

  • Ages 7 to 10 – In Your Skin
    • Dates: Saturday 19 November, 10 December, 21 January, 4 February – 2.30 pm
    • School holidays 26 October, 4 November, 22 and 29 December – 2 pm
    • The powerful, colourful and wild, completely expressionist portraits of the artist Kokoschka are the starting point for the creation of a grimacing, disturbing mask, a reflection of intense and personal emotions.
  • From 7 to 10 years old – At the top
    • Dates: Saturday 26 November, 7 January, 11 February – 2.30pm
    • School holidays 3 November, 23 and 30 December – 2 pm
    • In the workshop, the children translate their singular and personal vision of a city through collage and folding in order to give it a dizzying point of view.

  • Family visits and workshops (from the age of 5 and also for teenagers)
    • Dates: During school holidays, Wednesdays and Saturdays outside holidays
