“Matisse, the red workshop”

These exhibitions work very well with the building designed by Franck Gerhy. Ideal with children !

  • This fascinating exhibition at the LVMH Foundation has been set up around Matisse’s masterpiece “L’Atelier Rouge”, which was painted in 1911. It has been kept at the MoMA in New York since 1949
  • While the red of the canvas resonates, but why exactly is this painting so special?
  • It is quite simply that Matisse depicted the interior of his studio in Issy-les-Moulineaux
  • For the first time, all the works depicted in this painting are exhibited: six paintings, three sculptures and a ceramic reproduced in the painting, and made between 1898 and 1911.
  • By means of archival documents, and a film on the most recent discoveries, we are fascinated by the history of this painting
  • And children will not be left out, on the contrary, it’s a life-size memory game!

Ellsworth Kelly. Shapes and colours, 1949-2015

  • And to continue in a universe that speaks to the youngest, this second exhibition is a dive into abstraction
  • The shapes, colours, lines and spaces of the American painter are deciphered through a selection of masterpieces brought together for the first time in Europe
  • A surface area of 1,500m2 on two levels allows a real resonance of Elsworth Kelly’s paintings.
  • An encounter with this monochrome painter of modernity reveals to us, despite his fame, parts of abstract art that are little known to the general public in Europe
