Matisse and Marguerite, the gaze of a father
Behind the scenes of creation, the children discover art through a very touching father-daughter relationship that speaks to everyone
The Museum of Modern Art reveals a little-known facet of Matisse
Through 110 works that are rarely exhibited and come from private collections, we discover the extraordinary complicity that Matisse had with his daughter, Marguerite
Muse, model and artistic accomplice of this great modern master, Marguerite influenced his art and his view of the world
The exhibition in three acts:
– His child: Matisse makes his darling daughter a central subject in his work. He captures his face at different stages of his life
– Muse and actress of the workshop : in addition to being a model, Marguerite became a confidante and influenced her father’s art, especially in line and volume
– The ordeal: Marguerite is deported during the Second World War, of which she is a survivor. In this poignant section of the exhibition, we become aware of her role in the dissemination of her father’s work
From colorful portraits to joyful scenes, this beautiful exhibition is about love and mutual inspiration
Not to be missed, just a stone’s throw away, a walk on the Champs Elysées , the Trocadero esplanade with a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower !
