An unmissable event to celebrate the Year of the Dragon with your family!
This year, the Guimet Museum has chosen a very spectacular program to celebrate the New Year: lion dance, workshops, short films, meetings and mapping on the façade of the museum. Located on Place Iéna, it is a stone’s throw from the Trocadero. Ideal activities and entertainment to do with the family during theFebruary holidays!
From February 10 to 15 February, Asian communities around the world will celebrate theChinese New Year and the advent of the wood dragon.
The emblem of the Chinese emperors, the dragon is a powerful supernatural creature that embodies good luck and prosperity. We bet that this year will be full of surprises!
The program of the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Guimet Museum:
A new mapping on the façade of the museum
- Friday 9, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 February – from 5.30 pm to midnight
At nightfall, a video-mapping projection will illuminate the façade of the museum throughout the weekend. A fascinating dialogue established between the popular imagery of the dragon in China and works chosen from the collections of the Guimet Museum. This original projection will be visible from Place Iéna until midnight!
Chinese Dragon – Chinese Painting Workshop
- Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 February from 10:15 am to 12:45 pm and from 2 pm to 4:30 pm
To your brushes! Wong Wa invites you to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the dragon by practicing Chinese painting. (Price: €140 for the two days – registration on the museum’s website)
The Little Scares of the Demon Nian – Storytelling Trail for Young Audiences
- Saturday 10 February at 2.15 pm, 3.15 pm and 4.15 pm
The demon Nian returns every year to scare us on the new year… We will follow Justine Perrichon who will tell us about the little scares of this character who is not very serene either – (Duration: 40min – free with the entrance ticket – no reservation required)
Lion Dance – festive and family show
- Saturday 10 February at 3 pm and 4 pm
A troupe of acrobats, dancers and musicians will make the lion dance in a whirlwind of colors and music. The lion dance drives away evil spirits and brings happiness and prosperity. In the purest tradition, this super joyful show is a favorite of children. (Free with the entrance ticket – no reservation required)
Lunar New Year at the Guimet Museum by Banh Mi Media – screening, performance
- Wednesday, February 21 from 7 pm to 11 pm
An exceptional evening with the creative collective Banh Mi who celebrate and are inspired by Asian cultures. There will be screenings of short films, discussions on the traditions of the Lunar New Year and… Aunique performance between lion dance and hip-hop! (Price: €18 – registration on the museum’s website)
