"Comme en 40…" : l’année 40 en France, une année riche en évènements

  • The exhibition aims to retrace the atmosphere of this terrible year and its consequences for the population after the shock of defeat. It is the daily life of the French in 1940, prisoners of war, refugees, resistance fighters and inhabitants of different areas that is presented here.
  • 2 rooms, 2 atmospheres. The 1st room is essentially military. She shows the campaign in France and the defeat with supporting maps. The second room is on civilian life in the 2nd half of 1940. What does it mean to be French and live in France after the armistice.
  • With more than 215 objects, archives, photographs, animated maps and multimedia devices, the exhibition stages the backstage and the way in which the French perceived this terrible year.
  • A very successful, immersive and chilling exhibition not to be missed!

"1940 ! Paroles de Rebelles" : l’expo consacrée aux Compagnons de la Libération

  • This 2nd shorter exhibition also covers the year 1940. It focuses on the motivations for the commitment of the Companions of the Liberation.
  • It is located in the Museum of the Order of the Liberation, which is part of the Musée des Invalides (right next to the Cathédrale Saint-Louis des Invalides).
  • « 1940 ! Words of Rebels” is a really great and touching little exhibition. She wonders about the mysteries of commitment.
  • The exhibition questions the when, why and how of the commitment of the companions in 1940, even before General de Gaulle’s speech.
  • Through numerous filmed testimonies (an extraordinary opportunity to see these men recount their commitment), accompanied by letters, war diaries or personal effects, the exhibition demonstrates how and in the name of what values the first 1038 resistance fighters fought for a free France.
  • An exemplary exhibition, very lively, which will not leave the young public indifferent!
