Surrealism at 100!

  • In the historic heart of Paris, Center Georges Pompidou nestled in the Halles district celebrates anniversary with a major retrospective on surrealism
  • The great adventure of Surrealism began in 1924 with the writing of a founding manifesto, "The Manifesto of Surrealism", by André Breton, leader of the movement.
  • It is around this book, exceptionally loaned by the French National Library, that the entire scenography of the exhibition is based.
  • To mark the centenary of Surrealism, the manifesto is presented and staged in an exceptional way. Only shown twice in exhibitions since 1924, "La Manifeste du Surréalisme" is presented here with André Breton's voice-over, reconstructed by artificial intelligence.
  • Following 13 chaptersYou'll meet French and international surrealists as you explore the exhibition: they're all there!
  • From painting to sculptureIn this book, we discover Max Ernst, through photography and literature, collages and automatic writing, DalíRené MagritteDorothea Tanning, Tatsuo Ikeda, Giorgio de Chirico
  • But also the poets Paul Eluard, Breton and photographers such as Man Ray and Claude Cahun
  • Immersive audiovisual projectionsdocuments, photographs and magazines open our imaginations to this great artistic movement.
  • As part of this exhibition, the Centre Georges Pompidou offers activities for children. A fun and educational way to discover surrealism, while stimulating their imagination!
