L’exposition Degas à l’Opéra" : le peintre et les tutus blancs
- The Musée d’Orsay is dedicating a very beautiful exhibition to Degas and opera. We admire the paintings of ballerinas and little rats, but also more broadly the paintings of an era, that of Paris in the 1880s.
- Throughout his life, Degas made the Opera his favourite universe. His passion for this world is obvious.
- It is the whole world of the Opera that interests him. The ballerinas of course, but also the musicians, from the orchestra pit to the backstage, the spectators from the dressing rooms to the foyer, from intermissions to after-parties. Moreover, at the end of his life, Degas said that for him the ballerina had been only a “pretext”.
- This exhibition presents about 200 works, which do not only come from the Musée d’Orsay, but from 65 different lenders, including 17 private collections.
- Degas at the Opéra is an opportunity to highlight an exceptional painter, one of the greatest of his century.
- An exhibition for lovers of dance and impressionism.
