The “Arts and Prehistory” exhibition is organised around 3 highlights:
- Movable art, that is to say, those sculpted, engraved or painted objects, often small in size, which accompanied our ancestors in their daily lives. These are decorated tools, statuettes, animal sculptures, engraved plaques, made of ivory, rock, bone, antler… The exceptional pieces exhibited in this exhibition are presented by theme.
- An immersion in cave and rock art from all over the world : films, photo projections, audiovisual installations and interactive devices invite you to contemplate the abundance of works that adorn the walls and rocks of all continents.
- A tribute to the Venus of Lespugue: it is one of the major works in the collections of the Musée de l’Homme, discovered just 100 years ago, an icon of femininity for artists. If we admire her in the first part of the exhibition, we see in this 3rd part of the exhibition how she inspired many artists including: Yves Klein, Louise Bourgeois, Brassaï, Anna Ginsburg, Muriel Décaillet …
