16 sculptures in motion on a pool of water
one of the curiosities of the Halles district

It is also called the Fountain of Automatons. It is located between the Forum des Halles and the Centre Pompidou. These sculptures were commissioned by the Paris City Hall and the mayor at the time, Jacques Chirac.

We owe it to Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle who imagined and created it in 1983. This fountain is a tribute to the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky.

You can see 16 amusing or poetic sculptures that come to life on the water basin. Jean Tinguely chose black and steel and Nicky de Saint Phalle worked with fibreglass, polyester and colour. Motors and water set the sculptures in motion.

Stroll around the fountain and listen to the sound of the sculptures…
