“Deserts” at the Grande Galerie de l’Évolution
A scientific, artistic and sensory immersion in the desert environments of the planet, an exhibition in a format designed for families
- The Grande Galerie de l’Évolution of the Natural History Museum , so popular with the youngest, takes us on a tour of the world of extremes
- With more than 200 objects and specimens in an immersive atmosphere where sounds and projections penetrate the most remote lands
- From the Sahara to Antarctica, deserts are not only hot and full of dunes… There are also deserts of ice, pebbles, salt, wind
- We discover how life has been able to adapt to the most difficult conditions: a fennec with air-conditioned ears, a cactus with a water reservoir, beetles that collect dew… The children love it!
- And disconnected from our social networks, we learn how people have been living for millennia in these hostile environments
- In sharing, this very generous exhibition tells us about ancestral knowledge, cultures, crafts, and the language of men
- Through XXL projections and throughout the exhibition, the pedagogy is always there in the background to remind us how fragile the beauty and balance of these remote worlds are and reminds us of the urgency of protecting them
