L’exposition Gabrielle Chanel, manifeste de mode
- This is the 1st retrospective in Paris of the “great couturier” Gabrielle Chanel who will revolutionize the world of couture
- This exhibition is an invitation to discover a timeless universe and style and in particular 350 pieces, some of which are from private collections
- It presents the beginnings of “Coco” Chanel with some emblematic pieces including the famous jersey sailor shirt from 1916. It invites you to follow the evolution of Chanel’s style with its chic look, its little black dresses and its sporty models from the Roaring Twenties to the sophisticated dresses of the 30s. She evokes the war, the closure of the fashion house (only the sale of perfumes and accessories remains in Paris at 31, rue Cambon)
- The second part of the exhibition invites you to decipher her dress codes : braided tweed suit, two-tone pump, 2.55 quilted bag, black and beige colors of course, but also red, white and gold… not to mention the costume and high jewelry jewelry essential to Chanel’s silhouette
- A room is dedicated to No. 5 created in 1921
- Ten photographic portraits of Gabrielle Chanel punctuate the scenography and affirm how much the couturier embodied her brand
