Toulouse Lautrec exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris

"Toulouse Lautrec, résolument moderne" au Grand Palais : une très belle rétrospective

  • With more than 200 works presented, this is the 1st major Toulouse Lautrec retrospective since the one in 1992.
  • This exhibition aims to show that if Toulouse Lautrec is famous for his representations of Parisian nights and its pleasures, he cannot be reduced to the artist of the Belle Époque, Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge.
  • The curators of the exhibition ‘Toulouse Lautrec, resolutely modern’ sought to demonstrate the extent to which the artist was committed to depicting the reality of Parisian society in the 1880s.
  • Initially chronological, recalling Toulouse Lautrec’s beginnings in the Paris studios and his discovery of Parisian life, the exhibition then highlights different themes: Toulouse Lautrec the portraitist, the poster artist, the caricaturist…
  • This exhibition allows you to see the work of Toulouse Lautrec, which is not so often seen in Parisian museums.
  • In our opinion, however, it does not allow us to get a good feel for Parisian life during the Belle Epoque. Too bad!
