NOTRE DAME IS CLOSED FOLLOWING THE FIRE
Notre-Dame Cathedral:
- It is a masterpiece of medieval architecture, emblematic of the early Gothic period
- Built in the 12th century, Notre-Dame de Paris is one of the most visited monuments in Paris. It is almost as iconic as the Eiffel Tower
- Notre-Dame is not the largest cathedral in France, but it is still very imposing with its 130 meters long, 48 meters wide, 69 meters high for the towers and 96 meters for the spire.
- From the outside, it’s just perfect!
- You will admire its Gothic façade, its sculpted portals, its grimacing gargoyles and all the statues that adorn its façade
- The interior of the cathedral is just as majestic
- 10 bays for the Nave and 5 for the chancel, and a roof height of 43 metres.
Visit Notre Dame de Paris and the Ile de la Cité
- Visiting the cathedral is currently no longer possible, following the great fire of April 15, 2019
- The visit to the towers of Notre-Dame allowed you to have a majestic view of the Ile de la Cité and the heart of Paris. Be careful, 442 steps to climb! Reservation is mandatory on the Monuments de Paris website but please note that reservations can only be made for the same day on this site
- A visit to the Ile de la Cité (guided or free) is naturally a must. Historic seat of royal power in France, the Ile de la Cité has remained architecturally very preserved and retains a romantic side with its quays on the banks of the Seine
- On the square in front of Notre-Dame, discover the Archaeological Crypt of the Ile de la Cité. This site offers a unique panorama of the urban and architectural evolution of the Île de la Cité, the historic heart of the capital.
To see around Notre Dame:
First of all, don’t miss a visit to the Berthillon ice cream parlour : located at 29-31 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île – 50 flavors and a reputation of more than half a century! If there are too many people at his shop, don’t worry, there are many dealers on the island.
Take the time, once you have your ice cream in hand, to marvel at the acrobatic figures of the rollerblades and skaters of the Pont-au-Double
