In the 18th arrondissement
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart, with its Romano-Byzantine style is located at an altitude of 130m and dominates all of Paris. It is one of the symbols of Paris. Its ceiling houses the largest mosaic in France (480 m² of surface). The view of all of Paris from the basilica is absolutely stunning. It is one of the most beautiful views of Paris. Access is free for all. The Place du Tertre is the historic and touristic heart of Montmartre. This is where the painters and caricaturists are located. The Museum of Montmartre, the Renoir gardens and the view of the Montmartre vineyards. For shopping, it’s rue des Abbesses that it happens. Most shops are open on Sundays. The Montmartrobus will take you around the hill in 40 minutes through its most picturesque streets, including Sacré-Coeur. It connects Pigalle to the Town Hall of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, serving in particular the Place des Abbesses and the Place du Tertre (normal RATP rate). Montmartre is also the wall of “I love you”.

Our ideas for outings and activities in Montmartre
Montmartre with children
- Children will be able to take a ride on the merry-go-round on Place du Tertre. The Venetian-style carousel has the charm of the old with its carriages and wooden horses. It dates from the 18th century
- Take a little ride with “the little train of Montmartre“. Guided tour of about 35 minutes . Nocturne jusqu’à minuit en juillet et en août. Les enfants adorent !
- Take the funicular, a glass-enclosed metro climbing up the Butte. It should appeal to the youngest! He will drop you off in the Rue du Cardinal-Dubois, from where, with your back to the Sacred Heart, you will contemplate all of Paris
Nice places to stay in Montmartre
- Enjoy an excellent ice cream at Scaramouche
- Taste a hot chocolate and a pastry from Carette, Place du Tertre
- Eat a sweet and savoury pie from the little Mitrons. We love it! It’s a little further down the hill, at the level of the rue des Abbesses
- A la Halle Saint-Pierre (an atypical place that is at the same time an art gallery, museum, bookshop, conference venue, concerts, shows) has a nice coffee corner and spacious enough to go there with a stroller
