A unique and fun museum that takes us to the end of the world

Not far from the Montparnasse Tower, the Musée de la Poste traces the history of the post office from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Stepping into the shoes of a postman, sorting mail or engraving stamps, the Musée de la Poste offers great original activities (workshops, thematic tours, readings) for young and old.

    • and a game booklet (7-12 years old) to be collected at the reception

Exciting collections on the postal adventure

  • But who created La Poste? Do postmen still ride bikes? And how do you make a stamp?
  • This museum is a place of presentation and conservation where everything is done to discover the postal heritage in a fun and friendly way
  • More than a million philatelic pieces are kept there, such as stamps from the French Southern and Antarctic Lands
  • During the visit, visitors will discover 37,000 works illustrating the history of La Poste from the Middle Ages to the present day, historical documents, old mailboxes, postmen’s uniforms and even mail sorting machines
  • We also address the technological revolutions that have transformed the art of communication
  • The great adventure of the Aéropostale is not forgotten! This museum transports us on a journey to the end of the world
  • Contemporary art is also represented with fascinating works of “mail art”
  • All year round, the museum presents its collections and organizes temporary exhibitions for the whole family. The educational workshops and visits are adapted to young people
  • The Musée de la Poste was inaugurated in 1946 first in the Hotel Praslin in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, before being installed on boulevard de Vaugirard, in the 15th arrondissement in 1973
  • It was awarded the Contemporary Architecture Label after a renovation of the building and its museography and for its original architecture from the 70s

  • From 6 years old – Artistic workshops, inventive and creative, in connection with the cultural news of the museum – duration 1h30Reservation required
  • For teenagers:
    • Ulrich’s challenge, an investigation at the Museum – A certain Ulrich plans to steal one of the museum’s masterpieces. Equipped with your smartphone, conduct the investigation…
    • Writing workshop – Using inspirational texts, stamps and images, participants create a short narrative around the proposed theme.

Guided tours for children

  • for 3-6 year olds – “Mission Postillon” – storytelling tour – “Where has the postilion gone?”. Puss in Boots is devastated! Puss in Boots investigates the museum with the help of the children, in order to find the postilion and accomplish his mission with the king.
  • For 7-10 year olds – “The Mystery of the Yellow Box, a visit-investigation for Panic birthdays at the Musée de La Poste! The key to the yellow mailbox has been stolen… A treasure hunt for children and FPI agents to find Dark Factor in the collections and save the Musée de la Poste!

  • Philosophers’ Seeds of Philosophy workshop: having fun by learning about philosophy with a mediator. They discover the museum’s collections related to the theme of adventure, travel and transport
  • Mail Art Workshop – Mail Art is an artistic movement that links writing to plastic creation and whose works travel by post. Parents and children create their own works. A playful practice and an interactive approach to correspondence
  • Engraving Workshop – The stamp is the starting point of engraving. Participants use linocut and print their work using a press. + visit of the collections
