“Amedeo Modigliani. A painter and his dealer”
The exhibition, at the Musée de l’Orangerie, focuses on the strength of the relationship between Modigliani, a cursed artist, and his young dealer, Paul Guillaume. What would have been Modigliani’s fate without this meeting?
- In 1915, Guillaume became Modigliani’s dealer. He is only 23 years old, Modigliani 31
- Until Modigliani’s death in 1920, their relationship was intense both artistically and amicably and was incredibly fruitful
- Guillaume, a young dealer and exceptional collector of modern art, takes under his wing the artist damaged by alcohol and drugs
- He encouraged Modigliani in the path of painting, whereas the latter was rather interested in sculpture at the time of their meeting
- He rented him a studio in Montmartre, making him known in artistic circles
- He bought and sold his works, finally ensuring him a certain stability and material comfort.
- Thanks to his connections, in particular with Dr. Albert C. Barnes, an American doctor and wealthy collector, he brought him international fame
Our advice: don’t hesitate to book as soon as possible for this exhibition. In our opinion, it will be a great success.
