“Fashion and sport, from one catwalk to another”
This exhibition explores the links between the worlds of sport and fashion, from antiquity to the present day
- As Paris prepares for the arrival of the 2024 Olympic Games, MAD Paris offers us a joyful and colorful exhibition on the world of sport
- 450 pieces, clothes and accessories, but also photographic documents, newspaper clippings, paintings, sculptures and videos accompany us in the discovery of a body dressed for effort and performance
- We discover the links between two worlds that are a priori very distant
- This is how Patou, Chanel and Schiaparelli became interested in the practice of sport in the 1920s, and enriched their couture collections with sportswear for the first time
- Even today, the fashion giants continue to work closely with the most renowned sports brands
- This body dressed to win also speaks of the evolution of society, emancipation, belonging and even social classes
- The catwalks are full of stories and anecdotes: from the crocodile of Lacoste to the yellow jersey of the Tour de France, they have become iconic!
- Scandals are not forgotten with Serena Williams’ black fuchsia belted jumpsuit that shocked so much on the courts of Roland-Garros in 2018
- But also the victories with Zidane’s famous jersey worn for the World Cup
- Mythical garments chosen to celebrate the Olympics, they show us how much sport has influenced the everyday fashion adopted in the street: jogging pants, sneakers, tech clothing.
