Meet the Impressionists in virtual reality
In parallel with the anniversary exhibition “Paris 1874 – Inventing Impressionism” at the Musée d’Orsay, “An Evening with the Impressionists Pars 1874” is a unique virtual reality (VR) expedition
- Through this immersive adventure, young visitors are invited to discover the colorful and captivating universe of the great masters of Impressionism.
- The experiment took place on the evening of April 15, 1874. The Impressionist painters defied all the codes by exhibiting outside the official circuits, in the studio of the photographer Nadar
- Once the virtual reality headset is on, Rose, our guide, leads us into the vibrant Paris of the late nineteenth century
- The experience is stunning: the Grands Boulevards, the Opéra Garnier, the lighting and the carriages are beyond us: we walk through the streets of Paris!
- And what a feeling it is when the virtual elevator takes us to Nadar’s house: the artists are all there and present their paintings
- From Monet to Renoir, Degas and Cézanne, every brushstroke is magnified by technology
- Children can get up close and personal with the works and enter the world of the Impressionists in a captivating way
- The journey doesn’t end there… Artists are looking for sensations, lights, wind… then head for the Saint-Lazare train station, the guinguettes of Bougival or the cliffs of Etretat!
- This walk is enriching, moving and educational: a real encounter that will seduce children and adults alike
The immersive expedition: how does it work?
Due to the technology used, virtual reality experiences are not recommended for pregnant women, people prone to epileptic seizures and migraines, as well as people with balance disorders, vision problems or heart problems.
- The headset alerts you to the walls and silhouettes of other spectators: you can’t bump into each other!
- The space is 700m2 and can accommodate 100 visitors
- If you come with several people, each member can be identified, you will recognize each other during the visit
- For the children? The immersive expedition is possible from 8 years old but recommended from 11 years old
- However, it remains inaccessible to children under 8 years old, and not recommended for people who are sensitive to the technologies used
