“Surrealism” at 100 years old!
1924-2024 – The centenary exhibition plunges us into the dreamlike and disconcerting world of surrealism; Kids will love it
- In the historic heart of Paris, the Georges Pompidou Centre nestled in the Les Halles district is celebrating an anniversary with a major retrospective exhibition on surrealism
- The great adventure of Surrealism began in 1924 with the writing of a founding manifesto “The Manifesto of Surrealism”, written by André Breton, leader of the movement
- It is around this book, exceptionally loaned by the National Library, that the entire scenography of the exhibition is based
- On the occasion of the centenary of Surrealism, the manifesto is presented and staged in an exceptional way. Shown only twice in exhibitions since 1924, “The Manifesto of Surrealism” is presented here with the voice-over of André Breton, a voice reconstituted by an artificial intelligence
- Following 13 chapters, we meet the French and international surrealists as we discover the exhibition: they are all there!
- From painting to sculpture, photography and literature, collages and automatic writing, we discover Max Ernst, Dalí, René Magritte, Dorothea Tanning, Tatsuo Ikeda, Giorgio de Chirico …
- But also poets : Paul Eluard, Breton and photographers such as Man Ray or Claude Cahun
- Immersive audiovisual projections, documents, photographs and magazines open our imagination to that of this great artistic movement
- As part of this exhibition, the Centre Georges Pompidou offers activities for children. A fun and educational way to discover surrealism, by stimulating their imagination!
